In the drawing contest were they both trying to draw as well as they could? Or were they intentionally trying to create poor compositions?

No, they were really trying by spacejack (4.00 / 1) #2 Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 10:13:35 PM EST
to prove who was worst. I may have taken some subjective liberties with the rest of the events, but they were quite gung-ho about this, and wanted me to post the drawings.

(a) really trying to draw well in order that it would be clear whose best effort is the saddest display of artistic merit

or

(b) really trying to draw badly in order to see who was most capable of producing a bad drawing

I'm not really sure by spacejack (4.00 / 1) #5 Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 10:26:30 PM EST
You'd have to ask them, but you shouldn't trust anything an artist says about their own work.

it's all quite clear if you consider the (obvious) influence of French colonialism in Africa on the work.

that there was alcohol involved, and their drawing skills may have been somewhat impaired. If I weren't the model, I think I could've drawn a real contender.

In your drunken confusion, you signed a W under the impression it was a D -- wrong fourth letter from the boundary of the alphabet.

I dig the mystery ni's drawing creates with the strange composition. I'm all "why, why" and I can't stop checking his drawing out over and over again.

ni has captured something sexy and mysterious about spacejack. What do I have to do to get ni to do my portrait?

Failing that, there's the good old standby, but plane tickets are pretty steep at the moment.

I hope it was obvious my "academic" critique was intentionally over the top. I actually find both drawings to be appealing, in a enthusiastic-naive way.

I looks like you've got a Scottish Terrier growing out of your arm.

Do you?

If not, he wins! Or maybe loses. Depending on how you look at it.

They are both beautiful interpretive likenesses. But if you want me to choose a "bad" one, I think 256 is making fun of you whist ni took the exercise seriously.
