So I've been dieting for a while. Trying to imagine what I would've looked like in the wetsuit last January, before I lost 20 pounds. "Look at that! It's a Zepplin! On a surfboard!" Hoping to lose another 20 by the end of August.
From Thanksgiving (late Nov.) through New Year's I didn't really worry about my weight. Lots of Christmas parties, New Years parties, and other eating events. So the first 5 pounds came off easily enough in January simply because I was no longer doing those things.
In mid-April I decided to get (somewhat) serious about the weight loss. Cut out the PB&J sandwich at lunch and replaced it with a granola bar. On days when we eat lunch out, dinner is yogurt and a banana, rather than a full up dinner. Two days a week I cut out all meat in order to eliminate the fat that goes with it. So semi-veggie.
Did you know that there is a Betty Crocker Indian Cookbook? Neither did I. Its not bad. I use it more for ideas and basic techniques than for following the recipe blindly.
Also added some push-ups and sit-ups (up to 25 each now) to the daily 3 to 4 mile walk. I do that 4 days/week. Weekend mornings it's an hour or two on the surfboard, which is a pretty good workout. The legs are constantly moving (as that's how you keep from capsizing), and paddling is an upper body workout. Waiting for the waves is very good meditation. Still can't get up reliably.
So, anyway, I lost 10 pounds in the first month, and 5 pounds in the past month.
Thank FSM I managed to quit smoking, and stay quit.
