So I was going to go out tonight to some nice restaurant, and I decided to go to the nice French place around the corner from my house, I haven't been but they're supposed to have a pretty decent prix fixe offering right about the time I get home from work. I wanted to do it today because, well, why not.

I look at the web site to see what was on the menu tonight. Closed on Mondays. D'oh!

And I thought, hmm, I suppose I could stick around downtown after work, especially since I have this gift card for a bunch of rather nice restaurants owned by the same company, but I left the card at home and I don't want to go back and forth. So I'm trying to think of where I should go. It's a Monday night, so it shouldn't be problem getting a table somewhere without reservations. I'm around Michigan and Wacker and don't want to travel too far. I'd prefer something French-ish, but I'm flexible. And, it's only a Monday, so I don't want $100/person.

Monday is not the night to dine out. by ad hoc (4.00 / 1) #1 Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 11:05:21 AM EST
It's chef's night off. It's also waiter's night off, so you get the second stringers. And it's hairdresser's day off, so that's what the place will be full of. And never eat fish on Monday. It's been sitting around for three days.

Nope. Better to just go home and have some macaroni and cheese.

I mean, I should've thought of it, my cousin owns a restaurant. I'm going to try to bump us to Tuesday. Might just do Wings Night tonight.

Tuesday is not the night to dine out by debacle (4.00 / 1) #4 Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 10:56:58 PM EST
The chefs are hung over. The waiters are angry from not getting any on their day off, so you get spit in your soup. And it's dentist's day off, so that's what the place will be full of. And never eat fish on Tuesday. It's just bad karma.

Nope. Better to just go home and have some macaroni and cheese.

Monday = Service Industry Day Off by haplopeart (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 11:48:38 AM EST
Monday is the traditional Service industry day off.  In order to fully service the traditional consumer on their days off the service industries work those days.  They then 80-90% of them take Monday off.  The other  10-20% take Tuesday off so they can service the Monday 80-90% and they can be serviced by them on Tuesday!  Pretty efficient system I think.
